when belldandy was expensive

It’s funny how making the costume of a such a kind, loving, patient character can turn me into such a foul mouthed witch. Belldandy is finished!

This costume comes in as my most expensive to date. The wigs alone cost around $120 (there are two wigs there). The wigs were sewn together to make one, and it’s SO HEAVY. The ponytail in the back is about 3 feet long.

The necklace I’m very proud of – dad and I made it out of sheet metal.

The dress was made using the same pattern as I used for Urd… it’s made out of a china silk. Each of the triangles were cut out of vinyl and sewn on. Underneath the dress are five layers of underskirts – two that you can see and 3 you can’t (or at least, 3 you’re not supposed to).

The only thing I’m really disappointed about is the fact we couldn’t find any more of the fabric I wanted for the white dress part. I used it for the sleeves and the cape in the back, but I couldn’t find any more to use it for the skirts. (it’s the same fabric I used for amidala) I think it would have been beautiful if I could have found some more, but I had to get something different… and unfortunately, as it ended up, the white material of the skirt is a warmer white than the stuff I used for the sleeves and cape.

This costume won’t be so bad to wear, I think, except for the wig. My hairdresser wanted me to bring it in after I finished it and let him cut the ponytail some so it blended it with the shorter wig better, and I wasn’t going to, but now I think I will so he can cut some of that big ponytail and maybe take some of that weight off.

Sorry, I just had to babble some, this costume has been such a PAIN I’m so relieved to have it done!!
